Make It Monday: 5 X 6½ Envelope

I know many of us make some amazing cards! Sometimes those cards don’t fit into the ready made 4½ x 5½ envelopes. After reviewing some others ideas online, I decided to post some instructions to create your own 5 x 6½ envelope. There is room for a larger card, multiple cards, or a card with lots of embellishments.

Supplies Needed:
10x12 piece of paper – (designer paper to match the card is super cute)
Score tool or Ruler
Scissors
Adhesive

1. If starting with a 12x12 piece of paper, trim to 10x12.
2. On the 12 inch side of your paper score at 3½ and 8 7/8.
3. On the 10 inch side, score at 1½ and 8½.
4. Trim off the corner tabs on all sides.
5. Round the corners on the small sections.
6. Fold along all score lines.
7. Adhere the large middle pieces together.
8. Adhere one of the small flap.

9. Only adhere the other small flap when ready to seal.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!

TP Mini Album - Brag Book

Hello everyone! Today I want to share a small toilet paper mini album I created for a friend who just had a baby. I thought this would be an awesome size for a brag book to carry in her purse!

Her nursery theme is mermaid, so I had to use the Let’s Be Mermaids paper from Echo Park by Lori Whitlock.

The creatures and bright colors are so cute. I embellished a little with dollar store stickers.

Many little tags and spots for small pictures.

The cutest little stickers. This turtle was one of my favorites.

Look at how cute this dog is!

Each page has a matching tag. The back is plain for journaling or more photos.

What do you think? This was a super easy album using hidden hinge and toilet paper rolls. I used part one and two tutorials from My Sisters Scrapper on youtube to get a baseline and adapted to my ideas and sizes. If you haven't yet, you MUST check out Ginger's channel. She is awesome!

Tip Tuesday – Using Cricut Cuttlebug

Happy Tip Tuesday! Here are 5 tips for using the Cricut Cuttlebug:

1. Use all types of manufacturer’s dyes or embossing folders including: Close to my Heart, Quickutz, Sizzix, and Spellbinders.
2. Extend the life of your plates by periodically flipping them over.
3. Don’t force items through the Cuttlebug, instead, check placement of your items.
4. Prevent paper cracking/ripping by rolling the plates through slowly.

5. Experiment with the placement and “sandwich” of your plates for each brand.

I am still new to my machine, do you have any tips?

Scrapbooking Supplies 101

So, you’ve decided to start scrapbooking or cardmaking. Welcome to the world of paper crafting! It might be overwhelming at first, but you don’t need to buy everything available to get started. Here are a few items I recommend when starting your scrapbooking and cardmaking stash.

  1. Paper
    • Cardstock – There are many options available for cardstock. Personally I like a thick card stock to use for card bases, background colors, frames, and more. The CTMH cardstock is my favorite, but I might be biased.
    • Pattern Paper – This isn’t a necessity, but pattern paper really makes your projects stand out. You can use pattern paper for embellishing, backgrounds, and decorative accents. There are a ton of options for pattern paper from CTMH that change frequently.

  1. Scissors/Paper Trimmer
    • Scissors – Scissors are a key tool for any paper crafter. You can always tear your paper, but I prefer a more finished look. My favorite scissors are the Non-Stick Micro-tip Scissors from CTMH. It gives me the sharpness I need and the fine tip allows for fussy cutting small shapes.
    • Paper Trimmer – This isn’t a necessity, but a paper trimmer will give you a straight cut that you might not be able to get with your scissors. At least I know I can’t cut a straight line (didn’t I learn that in elementary school)! https://kraftykank.closetomyheart.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7190&ci=5984https://kraftykank.closetomyheart.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=10307&ci=9391
  1. Adhesive
    • Glue – You can use the old fashioned glue stick to adhere your photos and paper.
    • Tape Runner – I prefer a tape runner for my adhesive. It is much easier, cleaner, and doesn’t crinkle the paper. https://kraftykank.closetomyheart.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=9772&ci=7785
  1. Album
    • When all is said and done, you will want an album to put your scrapbooking pages in for you and others to enjoy viewing. CTMH has many album options including post and D-ring. Z5308https://kraftykank.closetomyheart.com/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=9437&ci=6731
  1. Embellishments/Stickers
    • Embellishments aren’t a necessity, but really bring your projects to life. CTMH offers embellishment kits as well as pre-determined kits for cards and scrapbook pages.

I hope this small list gets you started on your paper crafting journey. If you need any assistance or have any questions feel free to contact me. What are some of your must have items for beginners?
